How to Live Stream Your Birdfy Camera on YouTube

1. Getting Started

1.1 Account Setup

Make sure to register a YouTube account and enable the Live feature at least 24 hours in advance. Your account also needs to be verified for live streaming.

1.2 Device Requirements

You will need a Birdfy device that supports RTMP streaming. Currently, the Birdfy Nest, Birdfy Hum Feeder Duo, and Birdfy Feeder 2 Series are compatible with this feature.

Note: Each live session can last up to 1 week. After 1 week, you will need to manually restart the stream.

2. Generating a Stream Key and URL

2.1 Setting Up Your YouTube Live Stream

a. Log in to YouTube

• If you're using a computer, visit the YouTube website. For phone or tablet, open the YouTube app.

b. Access Live Stream Settings

• Click the Create(camera icon) at the top-right on a computer or at the bottom on a phone or tablet

• Select Go Live from the dropdown menu to go to the live stream setup page.

Note: Only one live stream can be active at a time per YouTube account.

2.2 Get a Stream Key and URL

Copy both the Stream Key and Stream URL from your YouTube Live settings.

Paste the Stream Key and Stream URL in the Birdfy app.

We recommend setting the Stream Latency to Ultra Low-Latency for minimal delay.

2.3 How to Tell if the Live Stream is On

Once the streaming is successfully initiated, the YouTube Live window will display the live feed from your Birdfy device. The status indicator will change from gray to green, confirming that your live stream is active.

2.4 Share Your Stream with Others

You can obtain the live stream link by clicking the Share icon.

After starting your live stream, if you stop the broadcast from the Birdfy app or YouTube dashboard, the live stream link for viewers will change.

Important Note: When you stop and restart the live stream, the link will be renewed, so make sure to share the new link, as the old one will no longer be valid.

3. How to Set Up a Stream on YouTube

3.1 Log in to YouTube

• If you're using a computer, visit the YouTube website. For phone or tablet, open the YouTube app.

3.2 Access Live Stream Settings

• Click the Create(camera icon) at the top-right on a computer or at the bottom on a phone or tablet.

• Select Go Live from the dropdown menu to go to the live stream setup page.

3.3 Enable Live Streaming (First-time Setup)

• The first time you enable live streaming, it may take up to 24 hours for access to activate. Once enabled, you can start live streaming right away.

3.4 Schedule Your Stream

• Click on the Schedule Stream button.

• You’ll have the option to create a new stream or reuse the settings from a previous one.

3.5 Enter Stream Details

• Add essential details like a title, description, and thumbnail for your stream.

3.6 Set Stream Privacy and Schedule

• Choose the stream’s privacy setting, enter the date and time for your live broadcast, and then click Done.

3.7 Confirm Stream Settings

• In the control window, verify the broadcast date, time, and privacy settings. You’ll see the Stream Settings tab below where you can manage these settings further.
